Families in Jombo area were not practicing home gardening owing to poor soil conditions. To challenge this, we organized women into Savings Groups for Food and Women Income and started teaching them practical soil enhancing techniques using nature farming and permaculture principles.
The women acquired skills for making bokashi, cow-dung compost, organic liquid fertilizer, biochar, green manure, use of soil cover, water conservation, and garden layout to maximize use of water.
The training transformed dry uncultivated and infertile land into productive soils which 72 HHs are growing a variety of nutritious vegetables, legumes and fruits that are bringing food and income to their families.
